Joe Bowers, 74, of Marshall Junction, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. William W. Harlow will officiate. Pianist Julie Lewis will play "Amazing Grace" and "In the Garden." Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville with military rites at graveside. Memorials are suggested to the Marshall Habilitation Center.
Born Dec. 27, 1929, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Harry Bowers and Clara Hattenback Bowers. On Jan. 3, 1953, he married Shirley Bailey, who survives of the home. He had lived in Saline County since 1988, moving from Belle. He was a troubleman for Union Electric for 32 years, retiring in 1985. He was a graduate of Brentwood High School in Brentwood and was a U.S. Army/Air Force veteran.
Additional survivors include one daughter, Jo-Ann Callaway of Spring Hill, Kan.; one son, William Joseph "Bill" Bowers of Marshall; one brother, James Bowers of Wright City; two sisters, Mary Lou Reed of Brentwood and Martha Gockel of Ellisville; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers.
