Charles L. "Pete" Schouten, 75, of Marshall, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. Rev. Hal Bassett will officiate. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Pallbearers will be Charles L. Schouten Jr., Christopher Schouten, Kristopher Kidd, Michael Schouten, Clayton Brinley and Douglas Prins. Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Darwent and Charles B. Ratchford Jr. Burial will be in Smith Chapel Cemetery in Howard County. Memorials are suggested to Smith Chapel United Methodist Church or Smith Chapel Cemetery.
Born Dec. 18,m 1928, in Saline County, he was the son of the late Clarence S. Schouten and Antonia Swopes Schouten. On Dec. 23, 1951, he married Ilene Robertson, who survives of the home. He had lived in Saline County most of his life and was a retired farmer and truck driver. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He attended Smith Chapel United Methodist Church in Howard County.
Additional survivors include four sons, Paul Schouten of Harrisburg, Charles Schouten of Columbia, Anthony Schouten of Camden and Richard Schouten of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Patty Lieby of Millersburg and Tammy Kidd of Moberly; one brother, Clarence "Bill" Schouten of Marshall; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Christina Brinley, two grandchildren and four brothers.
