"Coach" Woody Gaba, 86, of Marshall, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at First Christian Church in Marshall. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church or Friends of Arrow Rock in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall.
Born May 9, 1917, in Houstonia, he was the son of the late George Gaba and Gertrude Lorah Gaba. On Aug. 4, 1940, he married Roberta Kathryn Soper, who survives of the home. He had lived in Marshall since 1947 and was a social studies teacher and coach for Marshall High School for 30 years. He was a graduate of East High School in Kansas City and a 1939 graduate of Missouri Valley College in Marshall. He was a member of First Christian Church, where he had been a deacon.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Gloria Ensley of Kansas City and Nancy Gaba of Independence; one son, Greg Gaba Sr. of Marshall; four sisters, Ruth Murray of Pharr, Texas, Grace Reedy of Pasadena, Texas, Dorothy Sewell of Dallas, Texas, and Edith Hopper of Kansas City; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant daughter, one infant grandson and one sister.
