Richard L. Baker, 51, of Kansas City, formerly of Marshall, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Spring Valley Baptist Church, at 79th and Spring Valley Road, in Raytown. Visitation will be between 1 to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Maryville. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Sheil Colonial Funeral Home, at 11924 E. 47th St., in Kansas City. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Maryville. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Earl H. Baker Scholarship in care of Northwest Foundation, Inc., 800 University Drive, in Maryville.
Born June 8, 1952, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Earl Baker and Betty Underwood Baker, who survives of Maryville. He was currently working for the business unit of the Internal Revenue Service, where he was employed for 14 years. He was a 1970 graduate of Maryville High School, a 1977 graduate of Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville and a 1986 graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He was also an active member of Spring Valley Baptist Church in Raytown.
Additional survivors include one brother, Earl Wayne Baker of Kansas City; two sisters, Patricia Haynes and Elizabeth Davis, both of Maryville; three nephews, Andrew Baker of the state of New York, Jonathan Baker of the state of New Jersey and Stephen Haynes of St. Louis; and one niece, Jennifer Davis of Maryville.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by grandparents, one nephew and one niece.
