"Coach" Woody Gaba, 86, of Marshall, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.
Private family burial will be held Wednesday, Dec. 24, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. William W. Harlow will officiate. A public memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church or Friends of Arrow Rock in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall.
Born May 9, 1917, in Houstonia, he was the son of the late George Gaba and Gertrude Lora Gaba. On Aug. 4, 1940, he married Roberta Kathryn Soper, who survives of the home. He had lived in Marshall since 1947 and was a social studies teacher and coach for Marshall High School for 30 years. He was a graduate of East High School in Kansas City and a 1939 graduate of Missouri Valley College in Marshall. He was a member of First Christian Church, where he had been a deacon.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Gloria Ensley and husband Dusty of Kansas City and Nancy Gaba of Independence; one son, Greg Gaba Sr. and wife Charlotte of Marshall; two grandsons, Greg Gaba Jr. and wife Angela of Marshall and Jeremy Gaba of Marshall; one great-granddaughter, Madison Gaba; four sisters, Ruth Murray of Pharr, Texas, Gracy Redy of Pasadena, Texas, Dorothy Sewell of Dallas, Texas, and Edith Hopper of Kansas City; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant daughter, one infant grandson and one sister.
