William J. Hisle Sr., 80, of Concordia, formerly of Saline County, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Concordia. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Friends may call Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Burial with military honors will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Rader. Memorials are suggested to the church or Hospital Ministries in Columbia in care of the funeral home.
Born Nov. 6, 1923, in Saline County, he was the son of the late James E. and Elfleada Yowell Hisle. On Aug. 2, 1955, he married Winona Leha Stogsdill, who survives of the home. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Concordia and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving 21 active years until his retirement in 1964. He lived in Columbia for 35 years where he worked as assistant to the public works director for the city of Columbia. He was a member of Lohman-Meyer American Legion Post No. 258 in Concordia and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4367 in Slater. He had lived in Concordia since 2001.
Additional survivors include one son, William J. "Jud" Hisle Jr. of Shawnee, Kan.; two daughters, Robin Tipton of Fayette and Kristin Tipton of Rocheport; and six grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters.
