Katheryn Hord Kensit, 96, of Marshall, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at Mar-Saline Manor Care Center in Marshall.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. Rev. James C. Long will officiate. Organist Julie Lewis will play "Nearer My God to Thee" and "In the Garden." Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to Covenant Presbyterian Church in Marshall.

Born Nov. 24, 1907, in Weston, she was the daughter of the late Harry B. Hord and Mary Synnamon Hord. On May 26, 1946, in Kansas City, she married Arthur C. Kensit, who preceded her in death July 8, 1982. She was a 1927 Weston High School graduate and attended Maryville State Teachers College in Maryville. She also attended Harris Teachers College in Kansas City. In 1936, she received a bachelor of science degree in elementary supervision from Central Missouri State Teachers College in Warrensburg. In 1942, she received a master's degree in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She taught all grades at Simmons School in Weston from 1929 and 1931, at Burruss School in Weston from 1931 to 1933 and at Valley Forrest School in Rushville from 1933 to 1936. In 1936, she became the first-grade teacher at Benton Elementary School in Marshall, retiring from that position of 37 years in 1973. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma society, Benton P.T.A., National Education Association, Missouri State Teachers Association, Marshall Teachers Association, The Garden Club, Marshall Square Dance Club and Saline County Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Marshall, where she taught Vacation Bible School. She lived most of her life in Marshall.

Survivors include one sister, Mary Lee Smither of Weston.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Synnamon Hord.
