Hortense Edwards, 85, of Marshall, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Rev. Debbie Roath will officiate. Music will be provided by organist Bethany Weiker. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Wayne Brown, Earl Meyer, Mark Mills, Brad Edwards, Gene Holt and Terry Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be, Ray Bohlken, Bob Holt and Kenneth Lewis Wiggins. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Born March 27, 1918, in Sparta, she was the daughter of the late Will and Mae Davidson Holt. On Sept. 26, 1936, in Marshall, she married Everett L. "Jack" Edwards, who preceded her in death April 18, 1998. She was a member of Fish Creek Baptist Church and Gilliam Extension Club. She was a longtime Saline County resident.
Survivors include one son, Jim H. Edwards of Slater; one daughter, Janet Mills of Columbia; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, William Edwards, and two brothers, Clayton Holt and Kenneth Holt.
