Mary Elizabeth Humphreys Hickman Kohler, 84, of Overland Park, Kan., died Wednesday, Nov. 20, at her home.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel in Overland Park, Kan. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Kansas City Hospice.
Born May 25, 1919, in Mayview, she was the daughter of the late George and Bess Humphreys. She married David Browning Hickman, who preceded her in death. She later married James Q. Kohler, who survives. She grew up in Marshall and moved to Overland Park in 1948. She was Miss Slater and American Royal Queen in 1940. She was a Democratic committee woman and a member of Lambda Tau Delta. She was involved with the Shawnee Mission school district and Shriners and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She worked at the Overland Park police department from 1976 to 1991, when she retired.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Daria Blankenship and husband Dennis of Gulf Shores, Ala., Diann Brahl and husband Doug of Overland Park and Debi Hartley and husband Mark of Lake Lotawana; one son, James Kohler of Washington, D.C.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Jeanette Hickman; and three brothers, F.A. Humphreys, Russell Humphreys and Noah Humphreys.
