Matilda Josephine Jones, 73, of Pilot Grove, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at her home in Pilot Grove.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Concerned Citizens for the Black Community Center in Boonville. Rev. Edwin Donaldson will officiate. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Boonville. Pallbearers will be William Poole, Mitchell Perry, J.D. Coleman, Larry Mack, Charles Harris, Butch Elbert, William Newman and Johnnie Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Jones, George Perry, Cornelius Black, Kenneth Sims and Jeremy Jones. Burial will be in Boonville Memorial Gardens.
Born Sept. 14, 1930, in Blackwater, she was the daughter of the late Viola and Dan Perry. In October 1954, she married J.C. Jones, who preceded her in death. She was a member of Bethel Freewill Baptist Church in Blackwater. She had worked at the Marshall Habilitation Center, retiring in 1991. She had also worked part-time at Katy Manor in Pilot Grove.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Jones, Timothy Jones and Bobby Jones, all of the Marshall area; five daughters, Jackie Jones, Annie Jones, Patricia Jones, Theresa Jones and Veronica Jones, all of the Marshall area; three brothers, George Perry of Pilot Grove, Jewell Perry of Blackwater and Earl Perry of Boonville; four sisters, Mary Perry of Pilot Grove, Martha Vincent, Sebelia Black and Edna Mash, all of Des Moines, Iowa; 22 grandchildren- 12 great-grandchildren; one stepsister, Betty Finley of Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three children, five brothers and two sisters.
