Melvin L. Meek, 84, of rural Nelson, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, with a Masonic service at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. Rev. David R. Van Horn will officiate. Pianist Julie Lewis will accompany soloist Mike Bailey on "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Just a Closer Walk with Thee." Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Pallbearers will be Wally George, Donnie Francis, John Bartel, Dewey Bartel, Brandon Pulliam and Ken Rimmer. Burial will be in Arrow Rock Cemetery in Arrow Rock. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Born March 12, 1919, near Roads, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late John H. Meek Sr. and Weltha Daniel Meek. On Dec. 25, 1938, he married Hazel French, who preceded him in death June 29, 1998. He had lived in Saline County most of his life and was a member of First Christian Church in Marshall and Trilumina Lodge No. 205 A.F. and A.M. He was a retired security guard at the Marshall Habilitation Center.
Survivors include one daughter, Alice Gensler and husband Doug of rural Nelson; one granddaughter, Judy Duren; four great-grandchildren, Brandon Pulliam and Kenny, Gabe and Kara Rimmer; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, John H. Meek Jr.
