Mary H. Fizer, 88, of Slater, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Slater United Methodist Church. Rev. Jerry Geisert will officiate. Organist Connie Clements and pianist Becky Browning will accompany Herb Scherer as he sings "One Day at a Time" and "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder." Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Pallbearers will be Mark Fizer, Linwood R. Howell, Lloyd Malpass, Larry Klasing, Jim Klasing and Bob Scherer. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church.
Born May 28, 1915, in Wayne County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Lloyd C. and Naomi McCullen Huffman. On Jan. 12, 1946, in Goldsboro, N.C., she married Walter Clark Fizer, who preceded her in death Jan. 17, 1978. She was a member of Slater United Methodist Church, the Kum Join Us Sunday school class, Ruth Circle and United Methodist Women. She was also a member of Slater Travel Club and a longtime Big Bend Retreat volunteer.
Survivors include four sisters, Naomi H. Polter of Goldsboro, N.C., Helen H. Sauls of Eureka, N.C., Esther Marie H. Howell of Pikesville, N.C., and Dollie H. Best of Melbane, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Esther McCullen Huffman, three brothers and two sisters.
