Anthony C. "Tony" Buban, 89, of Carrollton, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Research Hospital of Kansas City.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Carrollton. Rev. Ken Criqui will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Carrollton. Military services will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Pence-Lovell-England Post No. 1773 in Carrollton. Memorials are suggested to the Tony Buban Memorial Golf Scholarship Fund or the American Cancer Society. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton, MO 64633.
Born Aug. 1, 1914, in Des Moines, Iowa, he was the son of the late Anton and Bessie Buban. On Aug. 18, 1973, in Alexandria, Va., he married Sarah Burruss Herndon, who survives of the home. He graduated from high school in Kirksville and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Stockton Jewelry Store and was a custodian for the Carrollton school district for 10 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Carrollton and the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Carrollton Country Club, where he golfed. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Pence-Lovell-England Post No. 1773 in Carrollton.
Additional survivors include one daughter, Tonya VanCleeve of the state of Florida; one son, Tony Buban of the state of Texas; three sisters, Katherine Scudder of Marshall, Marguerite Prather of Kirksville and Louise Buban of Kirksville; one brother, Frank Buban of Kirksville; and three grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie Knernschield, Josephine Grider and Helen Tavesic, and two brothers, Sam Buban and Steve Buban.
