Eula M. Stechman, 98, of Slater, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2003, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Rev. Penny Smith will officiate. Organist Bethany Weiker will play "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond the Sunset." Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Carl Johnson, Jim Johnson, John Fletcher, Jim Hazell Jr., Don Roettgen and Roger Brayman. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Slater United Methodist Church.
Born July 20, 1905, in Gilliam, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Mollie Boyd Johnson. In 1937, she married Stanley S. Stechman, who preceded her in death Feb. 19, 1971. She was a member of Slater United Methodist Church. She was also a member and past noble grand of the Rebekah Lodge and a member and past president of the Women's Society of the Brotherhood of Locomotive, Fireman and Engineers. She lived in Independence from 1958 until 1973, when she returned to Slater.
Survivors include five sisters, Dorothy Lynch of Kansas City, Kan., Ruby Hazell of Marshall, Grace Winona Brayman-Schoby of Bunceton, Vivian Piles of Columbia and Velma Hines of Boonville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
