Rock Bridge duffers get by Lady Owls
The Marshall girls' golf team lowered its score at home Tuesday, but not enough to beat Rock Bridge during a 186 to 195 dual match.
Senior Jenny Dehn was just one stroke off her career-best at Indian Foothills Golf Course with a seven-over-par 43, earning medalist honors for the Lady Owls with two pars and seven bogies during a steady round. With three pars, senior Grace McCartney shot a 46 for the second match in a row.
The problem for Marshall was getting another low round. Junior Megan Kays turned in a 52, just one over her personal record, and sophomore Jill Collins shot 54 -- nine strokes better than her top score of a year ago in her first completed round at IFGC this season. Senior Kate Finnegan posted a 60.
The Lady Bruins (3-5) were packed tightly together, with all five players scoring between junior Leah Bowling's 45 and 49. Marshall's team score was four points better than during its only other home match, a 190 against California last Thursday.
Among MHS junior varsity golfers, junior McKenzie Finnegan shaved eight strokes off her Indian Foothills record with a 48. She also managed the only birdie of the day, by either team, with a three on the par-four, 205-yard No. 17 hole. Sophomores Autumn Zinn (58) and Samantha Cartee (59) also carded respectable scores.
The Lady Owls (1-4) will visit Warrensburg for a dual match Thursday.
