Hazel B. Bartels, 93, of Douglas, Kan., formerly of Wichita, Kan., and Sweet Springs, died Monday, Sept. 22, at Medical Lodge of Douglas.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Sweet Springs. Rev. Lanny Funchess will officiate. Pallbearers will be Frank Smith, Sean Haradon, Curtis Brown, Weston Haradon, Glenn Smith and Brian Townsen. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
Born Oct. 29, 1909, in Saline County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Irvin Cundiff and Dovie Lucetta Crabtree Cundiff. On June 3, 1933, she married Glenn William Bartels, who preceded her in death Feb. 21, 1991. She had attended Antioch Baptist Church in rural Sweet Springs. She had worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita for several years and was a homemaker.
Survivors include three daughters, Glennora Baker of Arvada, Colo., Donna Mae Tully of Derby, Kan., and Gloria Fern Smith of Wichita, Kan.; one son, Bill Bartels of Augusta, Kan.; two sisters, Esther Russell of Odessa, Texas, and Lucille Brown of Marshall; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister, a sister and brother both in infancy and one grandson.
