Waite H. Smith Jr., 62, of Monrovia, Calif., formerly of Marshall, died July 4, 2003, in Monrovia.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, July 9, at Monrovia Canyon Park in Monrovia. A memorial service will also be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Fairview Cemetery in Marshall.
Born Nov. 13, 1940, he was the son of Waite H. Smith Sr., who survives of Marshall and the late Lydia Spriggs Smith. In 1995, he married Linda Adams, who survives of the home. He was a 1959 Marshall High School graduate and lettered in football and basketball. He attended Missouri Valley College in Marshall, where he had a football scholarship, and also attended Lincoln University. He worked with his father a few years driving a mail truck to various rural towns in Saline and Cooper counties. He later moved to Los Angeles, Calif., and worked for Mobile Oil for about 20 years and AT&T for 10 years.
Additional survivors include his stepmother, Frances Smith of Marshall; two daughters, Elisa Smith Edgar of Chino Hills, Calif., and Erika Smith Howe of Rialto, Calif; one stepdaughter, Amy Adams; one stepson, Jess Adams; two stepbrothers, George R. Harper of Oakland, Calif., and Otis A. Harper of San Diego, Calif; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and several cousins.
