Karl Edward Bean, 57, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at his home in Athens, W.Va.

Born Nov. 21, 1945, in Rochester, N.Y., he was the son of the late Frederic R. and Violet Roundtree Bean. He married Helen King Bean, who survives of Athens, W.Va. He was raised in Scottsville, N.Y. and served in the U.S. Navy in the Vietnam Era. He was a graduate of Wheatland-Chili High School in Scottsville, N.Y. He obtained a bachelor's degree from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tenn., and a master's degree from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. After working at several radio outlets in the Tri-Cities Tennessee area, he began a career teaching Broadcast Communications. He served at Kilgore College in Kilgore, Texas, Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Lincoln University in Jefferson City, and most recently at Concord College in Athens, W. Va.
Survivors include two brothers, Robert Bean of Scottsville, N.Y., and Richard Bean of Hilton, N.Y.; one sister, Susan Berryman of Adrian, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
