Theodore L. "Teddy" Arbogast, 67, of rural Slater, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Military graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at New Frankfort Cemetery north of Slater. Rev. Tommy R. Barrett will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Memorials are suggested to the Vietnam Veterans War Memorial in care of the funeral home.
Born Dec. 17, 1935, in Saline County, he was the son of the late William Arbogast and Ruth Glenn Arbogast Bradley, who survives of the state of Washington. On July 14, 1956, in Philadelphia, Pa., he married Diane S. Lewison, who survives of the home. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving 20 years of active duty, retiring in 1973 as a chief gunner's mate. During his active duty, he was awarded the Purple Heart following his wounding on Dec. 4, 1967. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 78 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4367, both in Slater. Following his retirement from the military, he returned to Saline County to become a commercial fisherman and later started his own construction company, which he operated until his death.
Additional survivors include one son, Raymond Arbogast of Slater; three daughters, Dawn M. Smith of Columbia, Virginia A. Arbogast of Little Rock, Ark., and Veronica Arbogast of New Franklin; one sister, Marie Grant of the state of Washington; five grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one son, Richard Arbogast, and one brother, Glenn Arbogast.
