Wednesday, October 10, 2001

COLUMBIA -- The Marshall volleyball team gave powerful Rock Bridge a spirited fight during the first game of a 15-11, 15-2 loss Tuesday at Columbia.

An ace by junior Michelle Robbins put the Lady Owls ahead of the NCMC Tournament runners up, 7-1. But the Lady Bruins (15-6) scored seven straight points and eventually overtook the visitors.

Junior Sam Narron had three kills and senior Katie Crawford and sophomore Sara Malan laid down two spikes each for Marshall. Senior Ashley Jones, junior Stephanie Chastine and sophomore Linzi Leimkuehler combined for 10 of the team's 15 digs.

The Lady Owls (5-14), who dropped three out of four matches at the Carrollton Quad on Saturday -- beating Richmond in three sets during a preliminary round -- head to Mexico on Thursday.
