Marshall kickers reach 20-win mark
HANNIBAL -- Any concerns Marshall head boys' soccer coach Derek Lark may have had about how his team would react following a disappointing loss to Rock Bridge four days earlier were alleviated Saturday.
Junior Hugo Farfan scored three goals as the Owls wrapped up the regular season with a 6-0 NCMC victory at Hannibal.
"They played great," Lark said. "Our passing was crisp, mostly one-touches."
Farfan converted passes from senior Adam Nichols and junior Justin Frauenhoffer for the match's first two tallies and then got an assist from senior Brad Langan to extend the lead to 5-0 early in the second half.
Senior Will Grace got feeds from two defenders, senior Tyler Clemens and junior Jeremy Gilpin, for a pair of first-half goals -- pushing his school-record total to 28 this season. Nichols added the final score.
Senior Erik Roehrs recorded his 15th shutout of the season by stopping all five shots offered by the Pirates (7-16, 1-6 NCMC).
Marshall will get a chance to heal its bumps and nicks this week. As the No. 1 seed in the Class 2, District 7 Tournament, the Owls get a first-round bye before taking on the winner of Friday's Hannibal-Mexico contest in the Nov. 4 semifinal.
