Malta Bend school board hires interim superintendent

Tuesday, November 20, 2001

Malta Bend's school board has hired an interim superintendent to finish out the 2001-02 school year following the resignation of Teri O'Neal earlier this month.

Acting in executive session during a special meeting Monday, the Malta Bend R-5 Board of Education hired Ralph Powell of Warsaw as interim superintendent. Powell, who has 25 years of experience as a superintendent, retired from Holden roughly a year and a half ago. His experience in education also includes teaching business classes.

Powell will begin his duties at Malta Bend Monday, Nov. 26, and fill the superintendent's post until July 1, 2002.

The school district is continuing its search for a person to fill the position in the 2002-03 school year.

In other action at Monday's special meeting, the board accepted a letter of resignation from Steve Brunkhorst, speech pathologist for the district. His resignation is effective at the end of the current semester.
