Monday, March 3, 2003

Four Kansas City residents were injured Friday afternoon when their rented Jeep was struck by another vehicle on Interstate 70 in Saline County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred at 2:45 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the interstate near the 77-mile marker.

Sharon R. Keith, 60, of Raytown, was driving in the right lane in a 2002 Dodge when she attempted to change lanes. Her vehicle struck the Jeep's side, sending it spinning out of control. The Jeep ran off the right shoulder, down an embankment and overturned. The Dodge also ran off the road and down the embankment.

Jeep driver Joyce M. Campbell, 51, and passengers Dennis W. McDaniel, 43; Terri L. Rainey, 44; and Shirley Cheatum, 55; all suffered moderate injuries. They were taken to Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall for treatment.

Keith was uninjured in the crash, but was cited by the Highway Patrol for failure to drive in the right lane, resulting in an accident.
