Florene Clemons, 98, of Malta Bend, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, at Golden Oaks in rural Marshall. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with Jim Kiser officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Fresh in my mind are the memories of a period in 1953 when a few Mennonite families bought farms and started a settlement in Daviess County near the towns of Jamesport and Lock Springs, Missouri.
