National Remembrance Day celebrated with memorial for POW/MIA of Saline County (Local News ~ 09/23/13)
On Friday, Sept. 20, a ceremony was held on the southeast corner of the courthouse lawn to dedicate a memorial monument to Saline County veterans who were POWs or MIAs. The monument lists 20 names, six of which are still MIA. Seniors Kalie Cowart and Christopher Medrano were presented as the 2013 Marshall Homecoming Queen and King during ceremonies at halftime of the Owls' football game Friday against Kirksville. Cowart is the daughter of Justin and JoAnna Cowart and has been on the A and B honor rolls throughout her career. Marshall woman sustains minor injuries in crash

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol accident report, Caitlin J. Stewart, 22, of Marshall, sustained minor injuries in a one-vehicle crash on southbound U.S. Highway 65, 0.5 miles north of Route BB. The accident occurred Sunday, Sept. 22, after 11:30 p.m. as Stewart attempted to avoid striking an animal in the roadway, according to the report.
