Re-enactors demonstrate, talk about wedding customs of 19th century (Features ~ 04/26/04)
Two boys sang old hymns, then the 1860s-era bridesmaid walked down the aisle in a flannel dress followed by the bride with her hair decked in pink ribbons and wearing a cream, floral-patterned dress. Most of those assembled in the Arrow Rock Christian Church Saturday were in period dress -- with women wearing hoop skirts, gloves and bonnets -- in part because the Historic Arrow Rock Council fund-raiser attracted little more than a dozen attendees outside of lecturers and participants in the mock ceremony.. ... -
Lady Owls finally find net, get win (High School Sports ~ 04/26/04)
SEDALIA -- There were plenty of reasons for the Marshall girls' soccer team to pack it in Saturday. The weather was cool and rainy, it hadn't won a match in nearly a month and several of the players had to prepare for the prom that evening. Yet, the Lady Owls played with determination and emerged from the Smith-Cotton Tournament at Sedalia with a 1-0 victory over Clinton -- which had beaten them two weeks earlier -- for third place in the Gold Division... -

Marshall netmen third at Sedalia meet (High School Sports ~ 04/26/04)
SEDALIA -- On a typically cold -- soon to be wet -- day at the Smith-Cotton Tournament, the Marshall boys' tennis team placed third in the rain-shortened event Friday at Sedalia. The start of rain and the threat of severe weather forced officials to stop the meet following the completion of the singles semifinal round and the doubles quarterfinals. That is how Owls sophomore Myles Yokeley won a coin flip for third place before having to play the singles trophy match... -

Sheriff picks right in The Race is On
(Community Sports ~ 04/26/04)
Nextel Cup officials ruled that Jeff Gordon had the lead when the 11th caution flag came out in the 184th lap of the Aaron's 499 Sunday at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. That decision, denying the sixth straight victory at the track for DEI cars -- with hard-charging Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kevin Harvick taking the next two spots -- drew jeers and debris from the grandstands. It also made a difference in the Democrat-News' "The Race is On" contest...
