The Midwest is the only region of the U.S. where poverty increased among the children of employed parents, due in part to the loss of relatively well-paid manufacturing jobs, according to Missouri Valley Community Action Agency. Homes undergo weatherization with no out-of-pocket expense

In the past seven weeks, approximately 35 homes have been weatherized at no cost to the homeowner. The Weatherization program in Saline County is a free service to those who qualify. Crews insulate and repair homes after an auditor conducts tests and measurements throughout the structure...
Marshall family seeks help after fire

A Marshall family of four was left homeless Saturday, Aprill 19, after a fire gutted their home on Clara Street. The Marshall Fire Department received a call at 3:21 p.m. regarding a structure fire at 738 W. Clara St. Fire Chief John Rieves said the fire stared in the basement laundry room.
