Slater Schools works toward increasing savings, student attendance

A projected decrease of $140,000 in state funding for Slater schools has the district tightening its belt. However, Superintendent Carol Maher feels confident that the district would increase its total savings in the next two years. The Fund Balance gradually decreased from 38 percent to 13 percent since 2005. That trend, though, is largely attributed to the economic downturn, and the fund should sit close to 17 percent for 2011...

It was unanimous. Last Thursday, June 10, Sweet Springs Board of Education voted to enact an independent career ladder, "Sweet Springs R-2 Academic Improvement." State officials discontinued the career ladder for school year 2010-2011. The board's plan institutes 40 percent of what has been typical in the past.
