The 2008 Saline County Fair gets off to a brilliant start. The demolition derby was disappointing -- even to the company managing the event -- but it was followed by a colorful sunset by way of compensation.

Normally, the boys do most of the work tending their animals, the elder Johnson said, getting up before the sun to begin their chores, but on sale day, they they have keep their good clothes clean and dry, so dad takes over hog-scrubbing duties.
