2011 Cookin' in the Park

The first "Cookin' in the Park" family event was held Friday, July 15, at Marshall Aquatic Center. The event included food, activities for kids and live music. The activities included a chance for kids to learn from park Day Camp youngster howto make musical instruments out of found materials. Two campers and a counselor demonstrated how to make a pan pipe out of reed stems. There was also an instrument petting zoo, which gave kids a chance to try out a banjo, a mandolin, a drum, an ukulele and a keyboard. Two local groups performed, The Swift Family with their old-time gospel songs, and Lines of Atrophy, a rock band from the Gilliam area. Burgers and hot dogs were grilled by members of the Marshall Rotary Club. The event was co-sponsored by Marshall Parks and Recreation Department and Marshall Cultural Council.
