Sandbagging at the river - July 2011

On July 5 and July 6, farmers in the Saline County river bottoms continue to hope for the best, while preparing for the worst. Large groups of volunteers in the Grand Pass and Malta Bend bottoms filled almost 13,000 sandbags using the Army Corps of Engineers' sandbagging machine. The first day, volunteers for the Saline-Lafayette Levee District filled 5,200 bags. On Wednesday, July 6, volunteers, including 10 inmates from the Boonville Correctional facility, filled bags in three different areas in the Malta Bend bottoms. If needed, they will be used for the Cole Lake and Malta Bend Levee districts
