My response to a post by writerintraining left out some important information. "Writer" wondered why the Saline County Commission had allowed the health department and ambulance district to build new buildings he or she felt were too elaborate and too expensive. In my response, I failed to point out that the Saline County Health Department and Saline County Ambulance Districts are independent of the commission. Each of these organizations is governed by an independent, elected board. The Health Department has been financed by a property tax of 14 cents per $100 of valuation since the department's separation from the County Commission in the election of August 2004. The Ambulance District is also financed by property tax.

I respectfully apologize, I posted a response in the first Shop Local blog prior to reading this entry.
Again Kathy, thank you for providing needed information. As a taxpayor, we just want to know how and where our dollars are spent.
I enjoy the wonderful conversation and learning from these posts.
