View From the Capitol -- Anger over administration immigration order

Posted Friday, June 22, 2012, at 3:44 PM

Good Day,

Our offices in Washington and throughout the Fourth Congressional District have been receiving quite a few calls from citizens angry over President Obama's executive order circumventing Congress to allow the Department of Homeland Security to grant temporary work visas to certain groups of illegal aliens.

I have made clear that I share the views of citizens who believe that the recent announcement by the President is an affront to the legislative process. Changes to our immigration laws must be debated in the open, in Congress. This executive order, concocted and executed behind closed doors, demonstrates the President's disregard for our form of government and his willingness to ignore the rule of law.

I am co-sponsoring a bill aimed at preventing the bypassing of Congress on immigration matters. H.R. 2497, the Hinder the Administration's Legalization Temptation (HALT) Act, will prevent the Administration from issuing broad "deferred action." This bill is headed to the House Judiciary Committee for its consideration. Please know that I strongly support a clearly defined, firmly enforced immigration policy. I have, in fact, co-sponsored several immigration reform bills including H.R. 704, the SAFE for America Act, which would eliminate the visa lottery system. I have also co-sponsored H.R. 152, the National Guard Border Enforcement Act, which would deploy at least 10,000 additional members of our National Guard for heightened security along the U.S.-Mexico border. I will continue to work with my colleagues to develop new common sense proposals for immigration reform.

I welcome your thoughts on this important issue which is vital to our national security and our economy and will keep you updated on immigration reform efforts as they move through the legislative process.

On another matter, I joined several of my conservative House colleagues to discuss some of the important issues of the day with traditional media and bloggers. Conversations with Conservatives, as this group is known, meets monthly to share ideas and to answer questions from the media. I spoke of the common sense conservative proposals for dealing with America's health care concerns -- proposals that we are advancing in the House regardless of the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on the constitutionality of the President's health care plan.

I shared the concerns expressed to me by Fourth District businessmen and women who say the Obama health care law has not made things better; it has only made things worse. The uncertainty associated with the costs of the new health care law has many businesses holding off on hiring additional employees.

ObamaCare must be repealed in its entirety. Americans deserve better. No matter the ruling by the Supreme Court, I and fellow House conservatives will continue to work on legislative proposals that increase accessibility and affordability of health care and will do so in a transparent manner so the American people will have an opportunity to read these ideas and comment on them before anything is passed. And, unlike the current law, ours will bring about health care reforms to ensure affordable coverage while maintaining Americans' doctor-patient relationship. Decisions on health care should always be made by patients after consulting with their doctors -- not by Washington bureaucrats.

Have a good week.

Vicky

"I've got some ocean front property in Arizona. From my front porch you can see the sea."

Con Job. We the people are getting conned from both sides of the aisle. Do not judge politicians on what they say. Judge politicians by what they do. You can apply this maxim from the base level all the way to the top. This is not a criticism of Ms. Hartzler but my general opinion of most state and federal politicians and one or two locals.

Atta girl, Vicky.

You are now elevated, in just two short years, to the position of "Super Obstructionist."

In my opinion, you exemplify precisely what is wrong with politics today. You have no idea what you are talking about, and can only seem to hear those who agree with your bosses in the GOP, who can only hear the folks pouring money into thier pockets.

Wouldn't it be great if she actually read, and responded to, the comments on her Republican dogma.

C'mon, Vicky, tell us where we are wrong? I get the impression a staffer posts these things and then never looks at it again.

If you really want to communicate with voters, here we are.

Wait, I see, you prefer the moderated, filtered version of interfacing only with voters pre-screened by the Koch Brothers.

Isn't it disgusting that individuals with such a skewed sense of reality, govern others?

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the United States settled on the idea of a safe-haven for those individuals who are/were escaping persecution?

There's nothing wrong with immigration, regardless whether it's considered legal/illegal.

Illegal immigration has been rampant in the United States, for years. The corporations have reaped their profits, now when it comes time to provide a sense of equality, and/or you're kind are at risk of taxes being adequately raised, it's time to man the cannons!

Everyone, regardless of race, religious belief, gender, sexual preference, should be provided the same benefits as an American, that you have, Vicky. Top of the line healthcare and an opportunity for higher education, without little to no concern of living a life as a debt-slave.

Our forefathers fought and died for these freedoms. I'll be ... if you silver-spooners are going to be given the opportunity to sit back and watch these freedoms taken from us, without a sense of accountability!

I agree our nation was founded on immigrants coming to America and working to settle the seemingly unexplored and seemingly unending new world. All through our history we have had various immigration polices, some good, some bad. HOWEVER, what has changed is two basic things. First, our 'land' is fully explored and settled with no vast areas of unexplored places for new people to go. Second, the global political atmosphere is such that we have groups of people from various places in the world that want to kill and terrorize anyone who disagrees with their ancient beliefs and who refuse to be tolerant but demand others be tolerant of them. AND they have taken this terrorism world wide. Along with terrorists we have nations like Russia, China, and others that want any advantage over the US and probably other "western" nations.

Due to these vast changes as compared to the time period back in "history" that required and needed a continuous influx of immigrants, our nation does not have that same need. Due to the above listed reasons it is imperative that we have strict immigration policies to protect our nation's citizens. We often spend a ton of time and money on protecting ILLEGAL aliens at the expense of the needy people that are US Citizens. I know people who have come to the US as immigrants and they followed the rules, taken the time, jumped through the government red tape and hoops, and spent the money and effort to become LEGAL citizens.

When we, as a nation, allow ILLEGAL ALIENS to enter our borders, unchecked and in the darkness of the night, and then we allow them to stay, refuse to actively remove them, refuse to protect our borders, and allow them perks and benefits and special favors simply because they might be some sort of potential voting block or a manipulation tool to intice votes from the Hispanic community, we are doing NOTHING to help our nation, and in fact we are hurting our nation, not only due to the security threats that unprotected borders allow, but to the concept of the rule of law. We are allowing the ILLEGAL ALIENS to disrespect our laws.

But then, I guess, with the great and wonderful (Sarcasm) manipulator in Chief that sits in the White House right now, he does not respect our laws, views our Constitution as a stumbling block to his ambitions to disregard our laws and legal system. But I guess most of you Liberal leaning Obama lovers view the constitution as that same obstacle.

PS.... I see that most of the same commenters on this website are still spewing their HATRED of conservatives and Republicans... lol doesnt that get old... showing your illogical, irrational bias and hatred and intolerance for people who have different ideas and viewpoints... doesnt that wear you out and get old?

Did you hear the latest statistic?

Apparently Asian Immigrants now outnumber Hispanic Immigrants in the rate they are coming into the USA.

Something in the neighborhood of 32% Asian, 31% Hispanic. Heard it on NPR Morning Edition.

Interesting to see which party now begins to pander to Asian voters. Mitt better watch what he says about China.

Its funny how these politicians target immigrants when we are a country of immigrants. If these right wingers wanted something done then they would just target those who hire them.

Sorry Vicky but your blog is an eyesore and makes voters of this district want to close their eyes.

I wonder why you think we will benefit from the bipartisian politics you push? I believe our President has made right choice on this one no matter how much you try to convince us otherwise.

X-ray,

Most folks ancestors did not immigrate to America.

Most folks ancestors invaded America.

The Indigenous People of America who are the rightful heirs of America did not invite those invaders to come to America. Those Europeans came and raped and murdered and butchered millions of men, women, and children who were the only true Americans and stole every single inch of their land..

Just setting the record straight, mate.

You 'guys' make me proud! Vicky spouts the ol' party line. It's like the Stepford Wives of politics...and I believe it's aimed at preventing positive change. If Congress REALLY wanted to do what's best for America, they'd all announce this is their last term. Career politicians only care about themselves; greed gets in the way of righteousness and good.

Bless you NanaDot, you are spot on!

Yes, the "certain groups of illegal aliens" were children of undocumented immigrants, most of whom have never known life anywhere but here. They are "American" in their hearts & minds. As for debating and deciding in Congress, that will never happen as long as the GOP continues to obstruct every attempt at progress.

Also, is there any possibility that you might explain to us once again why you voted against extending the Bush tax cuts for everyone with incomes below $200-250,000, which happens to be 99% of your constituents? Was it really just so you would have a better chance to extend the tax cuts for yourself and the rest of the 1%?

x-ray, please go back and carefully read what you wrote and then think about exactly who is full of hate, being illogical, irrational, biased, with hatred and intolerance for others? Seriously.

-- Posted by greendigits on Fri, Nov 23, 2012, at 6:40 PM

Vicky, would it be asking too much for you to explain exactly how Obamacare "has only made things worse" when really you're just following your marching orders from the insurance companies?
