Blues awards announcedPosted Friday, May 6, 2011, at 9:52 AM
Willie J. Campbell talks about his twin careers -- musician and licensed clinical social worker.
The Mannish Boys, with Marshall's own Willie J. Campbell on bass, are not listed among the winners. The band was nominated in three categories and its drummer, Jimi Bott, in one. The winners in those categories include Pinetop Perkins & Willie 'Big Eyes' Smith, "Joined At the Hip" -- best traditional blues album; Buddy Guy, "Living Proof" -- best album; and The Derek Trucks Band -- best band; and Cedric Burnside -- best drummer. Campbell said before the trip to Memphis for the awards ceremony and show that he wasn't overly concerned about winning. He said he was honored by the nominations and thrilled to get a chance to play at the show. I'm hoping to meet with him when he returns home and find out more about the event. Online: |
