Marshall is jazzPosted Friday, November 12, 2010, at 6:11 PM
Marshall has jazz in its bones.
It's there in our past -- the town produced one of the top jazz performers of the era in Bob James -- and it's present on the square when the Municipal Band plays and in auditoriums when the Community Chorus decides to swing.
And it's getting a new boost with the coming of age of Missouri Valley College's Jazz Band, which will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, in Eckilson-Mabee Auditorium on the MVC campus.
The group's first public performance this fall was at the MVC Fall Showcase. It played again at the Marshall Cultural Council's Dinner and a Show fundraiser.
Director Garry Anders has a passion for jazz and a passion for teaching -- and the result is evident when his bands take the stage.
The concert Sunday will be a chance for more people to see the group in action.
If you love jazz, you'll want to be there.
