The Bob James Jazz FestivalPosted Thursday, September 2, 2010, at 8:43 AM
At last week's Marshall Cultural Council meeting, Virginia Spriggs brought the exciting news that jazz great Bob James, one of Marshall's famousest famous sons, has agreed to let us use his name in association with the jazz camp/festival event we're planning for next year.
We're deeply grateful to Mr. James for his permission and intend to create an event he and the community will be proud of. We're still early in the planning process, working out some details about the timing and scope of the event, but we've decided it should be something that combines music education (a camp or clinic) with entertainment (a festival). More information to follow. Anyone who's interested in the arts in Marshall (performance, visual, craft, etc.) or in helping with this and other events in the works is welcome to attend MCC meetings. The next one is tonight (Sept. 2) at 6:30 p.m. in the Wood & Huston Community Room on the north side of the Marshall square. Huzzah!
Eric,
As a community armchair quarterback who rationalizes not participating by being too busy with work, kids, life, home ownership, and hobby farming, I would like to commend those who are working to make this happen.
Thanks to all of you who are working on this. It is a good thing. Way to go.
(Is 'famousest' really in the dictionary? Yew done been 'n Marshall too long, buddy.)
