Volunteer Spotlight

Posted Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at 6:42 PM

Myra Copeland, member of our partner organization the Saline Animal League, spends many hours at the Shelter each week helping us support the cats and dogs that are temporarily housed here.
The Marshall Animal Shelter is blessed to have many, many people who help make the world go 'round. It takes many willing hands and hearts to enable us to achieve what we do. Today I'd like to spotlight one of the folks we see a lot of--Myra Copeland. An original member and founder of the Saline Animal League (which celebrated its 15th anniversary this year!), Myra is a true animal lover who goes many extra miles to help them. She is at the Shelter virtually every day for several hours, not only coordinating the medical care for animals but doing a little bit of whatever needs to be done, whether that is cleaning cages, feeding or assisting visitors. She is our own "Dr. Myra, Medicine Woman", and is consulted regularly regarding animal behavior and health. We look at poop together a LOT!! Myra serves with a deep generosity of heart and spirit, and has a wicked sense of humor to boot. She is a joy to work with, and provides us with a historical background by which we can mark the Shelter's improvements, successes and continued challenges.

Thank you, Miss Myra, for being who you are and for all you do!

Myra is a true gem. She supported us in the adoption of our Great Gatsby dog almost seven years ago and we are forever grateful for her presence at the shelter. We'd lost our beloved dog of 15 years just a few short months before we found our new pup, and I wasn't sure my heart was ready to love another dog as much, but with her support and hugs, we left the shelter that day with our miracle pup, and have never looked back. Thank you, Myra! You make the world a better place.
