Discoveries await at the Marshall library genealogy room | Director learns more about local ties
Posted Thursday, March 22, at 7:41 AM

Life is a funny thing. When I took the job as library director back in 2004, my family (primarily located in Weston) told me they were so happy to have me located back in Marshall because of the family history in Marshall. As many of the people they were referring to passed on either before I was born or while I was quite young, I didn't realize the extent of my family's connection to Marshall...

Taking a 'wait and see' stance on e-readers
Posted Wednesday, January 25, at 12:40 PM

There sure has been a lot of ink used lately to discuss e-readers, whether you're a Kindle, tablet or ipad, or a Nook fan. Thanks to the gift-giving season, ownership of such devices (in the U.S.) jumped from 10 percent in mid-December to 19 percent in early January -- according to the report from the Pew Internet & American Life Project...

It seems that some of the requirements of a contract with Overdrive are not very compatible with the nature of libraries -- providing access for the public at the lowest cost possible while maintaining the quality of the collection...

2 book recommendations and a coming history event at the library
Posted Thursday, September 22, at 12:14 PM

This week, I read about two recently released books. Both are intriguing for completely different reasons. Watch for both of these books coming to your library soon. The first is a collection of Shel Silverstein's poems, published posthumously by his family. This incredibly whimsical author left over 1,500 poems and his family worked to sift down about 150 poems for the new book...
