Thanksgiving CheersPosted Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at 4:57 PM
Hello everyone!
It has been a long time since I have wrote a blog, so thought I would drop by and see how everyone is doing. What a year! As we roll into another fall and winter, I thought it might be fun to find some more riddles, crafts and whatever else I stumble upon before this is done. Thanksgiving is right around the corner so thought we might start with some Thanksgiving thoughts and riddles. First of all, I think that we should stop for a minute and be thankful for our family, friends, health and everything that we have been blessed with in life. NOW...On with the fun! RIDDLES: 1. Why don't you eat fish on Thanksgiving? 2. Hippies put what on their Thanksgiving potatoes? 3. Teddy bears have what in common with turkeys? 4. The pilgrims' cows came to America on what ship? 5. What's inside a genie's turkey? 6. What does Frosty the Snowman eat on Thanksgiving? 7. What goes "gobble, gobble, BOOM!? THANKSGIVING QUOTES: If you are really thankful, what do you do? You share. W. Clement Stone There is no sincerer love than the love of food. George Bernard Shaw Nothing purchased can come close to the renewed sense of gratitude for having family and friends. Courtland Milloy Thanksgiving, after all, is a word of action. W.J. Cameron Coexistence...what the farmer does with the turkey - until Thanksgiving. Mike Connolly THANKSGIVING TRIVIA: Thanksgiving is celebrated only in the United States. True or False The Greek Goddess of Corn is: (a) Demeter (b) Cornucopia (c) Ceres (d) Grainophillia The Indians who were invited to the Thanksgiving feast were of the Wampanoag tribe. Who was their chief? (a) Massasoit (b) Pemaquid (c) Samoset (d) Squanto Thanksgiving became a national holiday thanks to this woman who was an editor of a woman's magazine called "The Godey's Lady's Book": (a) Sarah Hale (b) Sarah Parker (c) Sarah Bradford (d) Sarah Standish The first Thanksgiving football game was started in 1934 by which team? (a) Pittsburgh Steelers (b) Kansas City Chiefs (c) Detroit Lions THANKSGIVING CRAFTS: PAPER PLATE PUMPKIN PIE: Your child paints a paper plate to look like a pumpkin pie and then adds real pumpkin pie spice to the paint as it dries so the whole craft smells just like a real pumpkin pie. Top it off with a cotton ball dollop of "whipped cream" and your Thanksgiving food craft is finished. What you'll need: Small paper plate Brown and orange paint Paint brush Cotton ball Pumpkin pie spice How to make your Pumpkin Pie Craft: Paint the inside of the paper plate orange. Paint the outside rim of the paper plate brown. While the paint on the plate is still wet, sprinkle some pumpkin pie spice onto the plate. Add a cotton ball to the middle of the paper plate (the paint will glue it into place). BLESSING MIX: Each ingredient in this snack mix symbolizes something associated with Thanksgiving. 2 cups Bugles brand corn snacks - shaped as a cornucopia, a horn of plenty. 2 cups pretzels - represent arms folded in thanks and prayer. 1 cup candy corn - during the first winter, the Pilgrims were each allotted only 5 kernels of corn per day because food was so scarce. 1 cup dried or candy fruits - Thanksgiving is the celebration of the harvest. 1 cup peanuts or sunflower seeds - seeds represent the potential of a bounteous harvest for the next season if they are planted and well tended. In a large bowl mix all ingredients together. Other ingredients such as dry cereals, candies, or marshmallows can also be added. Make this mix as a family and eat while discussing each ingredient and how it relates to Thanksgiving. And finally a poem that I found and thought it to be a bit of an inspiration. How to observe Thanksgiving. Count your blessings instead of your crosses; Count your gains instead of your losses. Count your joys instead of your woes; Count your friends instead of your foes. Count your smiles instead of your tears; Count your courage instead of your fears. Count your full years instead of your lean; Count your kind deeds instead of your mean. Count your health instead of your wealth; Count on God instead of yourself. ~Author Unknown~ Answers will be posted on Friday. Please do not post answers in blog. Thank you and have a great week!
