Bravo dailyprophet! I agree with you 100%. McCain is trying to use scare tactics in order to push our votes to his side. It would be risky if we voted McCain into office and crossed out fingers in a desperate hope that he has finally learned something from all of his "experience", especially when it comes to finances. As a middle income American, I have to say I am sick and tired of bailing out big companies. It seems like they never have to be liable or take responsibility for their own mistake. We are always the ones that have to pay for their wrong doings. I wish my boss would throw money at me every time I made a mistake or messed something up. We can't all be so lucky.
Barack Obama is scary? That's what the McCain campaign is trying to make you believe. The McCain campaign itself claims they are now "turning a page on this financial crisis" by focusing on Senator Obama as "too risky for Americans."
Too risky? Never mind that most Americans don't have the luxury to turn the page on their own economic woes, and that passage of the bailout package hasn't solved their immediate problems -- if we are going to discuss risky choices, just take a closer look at Senator McCain's past.
In the 1980s, after he was lobbied heavily by Charles Keating, the chairman of Lincoln Savings and Loan who later went to jail, McCain was instrumental in calling off federal regulators pushing for an investigation of Lincoln. This was the first time he sided with deregulation. The ensuing Savings and Loan collapse cost U.S. taxpayers $124 billion. At the time, McCain got away with a warning from the Senate Ethics Committee, but others involved in the scandal were not so lucky.
Not only does McCain's involvement with Charles Keating show a serious lack of judgment and integrity, he also seems to have learned nothing from it. He has continued to vote for more deregulation over the years, leading us again to a collapse in the financial sector. The only difference: in 2008 it is costing taxpayers $700 billion.
Why should we wait around to find out if McCain has learned the lesson this time? What will it cost us if he hasn't? A risky choice, wouldn't you agree?
Most people who say that Obama is scary have no idea why that would be true. They say he is a liberal Democrat but don't really know what that means. They say he will increase our taxes when many non-partisan sites have already stated that that is not true. He will lower taxes for 95% of Americans instead. They say he is inexperienced - well, look what decisions McCain has made during his long years collecting "experience". They say he has shady connections to former terrorists, but they don't mention McCain's own skeletons, like the Keating Five scandal I described and his connections to Gordon Liddy, whom he calls a friend and who was in jail for his involvement in Watergate (and is unrepentant to this day).
Just food for thought.
I have to agree with barebackrider, the Barack Obama is SCAREY!
midmocat - I agree with everything you've said about Obama. But to say we democrats should be GLAD to have had George Bush to protect us? He's only about protecting his rich oil buddies, his own interests and has done nothing good for us hard-working middle-class people.
I'm a Democrat thru-and-thru, but to date, I sure can't bring myself to vote for the Obama-bin-Biden team!
I am pleased to see Jay Nixon will be attending. Mr. Nixon is a fantastic public servant who has always fought for the underdog.
I will be voting for him and I hope all of Marshall gets out to support Mr. Nixon in his run for Governor!!
You are absolutely corrected. My apology for overlooking and failing to mention Dr. Joe K. Sadeghi will be the featured guest. I encourage everyone to attend and visit with our Democratic Candidate for Senate.
I forgot to include the canvass that is planned for Saturday. For anyone wanting to get involved, there will be a canvass beginning at noon. It will conclude in time to return to headquarters for the grand opening. There are targeted area's that could prove pivotal and this is an effort to reach out to these folks. If anyone is interested, come by 102 E Morgan between 11:30 - 12:00 to learn more or to volunteer. If not, stop by for a snack, drink, free hot dog and view our displays.
Obama, cannot do it alone! We have to get the old republicans out of Congress, and the Senate! Some how, i think we need to get the old Politicians out and some new young bloods in. The young People with Character, is our Future! And we need to get our Government back to the people. The arrogant People we have in there now, thinks they are above the law, and treat us like we are their Children, this is our Government, they are our Representative . So we should treat them as such! It turns out you all most have to use your Intuition , to pick a Candidate! We have to get some credibility back in this World. And it should start with Government , from top to Bottom! So People???????? Register and Vote,to save our Country!
You forgot to mention that the special guest speaker at the Women's Jefferson Club will be Dr. Joe K. Sadeghi, Candidate for MO State Senate District 21.
