The Ad Wars BeginPosted Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at 4:19 PM
Sen. John McCain recent ad promotes 'renewable energy' but his energy plan doesn't specify any new federal spending for renewable energy. He has advocated spending $2 Billion a year on "clean coal" (isn't that an oxymoron?)and building 45 new nuclear plants by the year 2030. Neither of these energy sources is renewable. In the past Sen. McCain has not supported subsidies for renewable energy but has supported federal help for nuclear power. The campaigns response about renewable energy stated "...renewable energy will require that we rationalize the current patchwork of temporary tax credits that provide commercial feasibility..." whatever that means.
Sen. Obama's plan calls for spending $150 Billion over 10 years on alternate and renewable energy sources. It will also require that 25% of electricity used in the U.S. come from sustainable sources such as solar, geothermal, wind by the year 2025. The Dept. of Energy has said we could get 20% of our electricity by 2030 from wind alone.
This newest ad also continues to perpetuate the false claim that the "real Obama promises higher taxes." That is true if you earn over $250,000.00 a year ($200,000.00 for singles). It goes on to say that the Obama plan would raise taxes on:
The only problem is all the above statements are false.
If you want to know the facts and what each candidate proposes, visit their web sites. They each have detailed plans of their vision of our future. I urge everyone to examine the facts and do not rely on paid advertising for information. Our future will be decided through the ballot box in November. Make an informed choice!

Music I share those outrages, and many more like them. So, why did you waste all your venom on at worst a parliamentary trick by Nancy Pelosi? I believe that with your compassion all you lack is a more logical target for your outrage to do good things.
My outrage? My outrage is every time I turn on the news and hear stories of child molestations and mass murderers directly AFTER the stories about Britney's latest situation!
My outrage is that this once sovereign nation is now a literal slave to what was it, $70 billion in foreign oil, and because of stupid party loyalty no one is getting a **** thing done!
My outrage is when I hear Osama bin Laden, a man of hate and murder and fear is still at large! Why couldn't we have had him sniped and wiped away without the war? I don't know!
My outrage is when I hear of innocent men, women and CHILDREN being blasted to oblivion and people turn around and say "That's not America's problem"! It may not be America's problem, but it is humanity's problem!
An example of what really, really ****** me off:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/08/1...
If you can find anything more worth being outraged about, I dare you to show it to me!
So you tell me When The Music Plays, where is your outrage at an Administration that lied us into an unnecessary war, poorly executed it, and has allowed it to sap our national treasure? Where is your outrage at an Administration that has given hundreds of billions of dollars worth of no bid contracts to their cronies to stuff their pockets, and fritter away the remainder on poorly executed reconstruction in Iraq? Where is your outrage at that same Administration that now can't find an extra nickle to fund the reconstruction of the crumbling infrastructure in our own country? You say you can only pray for America at this point. You might be better served if you saved at least one of your prayers for your own enlightenment.
Oklahoma, like I said, I don't stand with either side of the political monster, and I try to get my information from as many sources as possible (it's easier for one station to screw up than for them all to be wrong). And I see what you're saying about Obama.
But your excuse for Pelosi's actions holds no weight with me, because I heard an interview live from the House of Reps. from a Republican standing in the dark saying Pelosi had the microphones and lights turned off and would not let the media inside to cover the story. If I could remember which guy it was I'd tell you, but that was like Day Three of what I call the "Republican Rebellion."
But maybe it wasn't as strict as all that, maybe they were standing on a dark floor trying to work out an energy plan and no one in the media WANTED it covered (except, as I mentioned, Fox News and a bit on CNN). I'm not saying this is the case, but it is possible: the professed liberal media may have deemed the situation "un-newsworthy" and brushed it under the rug.
I have faith in this country, and in the people who want to know and let others know, but as Michael Savage says, you know a country is dying when there is no "outrage." So far Pelosi's inconsiderate, completely partisan, and completely hypocritical acts have caused no outrage, and I can only pray for my America at this point.
Music Plays, your post smacks of political paranoia. It is newsworthy every time Bush takes more vacation because he has taken more vacation than any president in the history of our nation. Further, the press has a duty to report the President's lack of activity. It is their job to inform the public what he has done each day. That is why every news source excepting those that are shills for his incompetent administration such as Faux News reports it.
Obama is not in any way responsible for our foreign policy. Therefore if he does not interrupt a short three day vacation to announce his position on the Russia/Georgia problem it is not the stuff for headlines anywhere except those venues interested in destroying his candidacy by convincing stupid people that he is lazy or derelict in his duties. It is not his duty. It is the President's duty to have a ready response. You have compared apples and oranges. Now do you see the difference?
You are also wrong in stating that Pelosi "forbade coverage". She has no power to forbid coverage of anything. Further on that point if coverage was forbidden how do you know about what was forbidden? The only branch of the government that is forbidding coverage is the executive branch (The Bush Administration) which has claimed executive privilege (forbidding coverage) more than any administration in American history. That one even tops his vacation record. Surely you knew that. Then again maybe you did not know that if your basic news source is Fox News.
Here's something of interest, at least to me, and maybe you should do a blog post on it, Ron.
Little something I call "Vacation in Politics." I've noticed there has been a sudden influx in news stories about the President's recent vacation, even down to pointing out how many days he's been on vacation since taking office. People call it shirking his duties.
But not one story did I see about the fact Barack Obama waited three days before he had anything to say about the situation in Georgia (the country, not the state). Three whole days before Russia invading a sovereign nation took priority over his vacation. I understand the man works tirelessly in his campaign and needs a rest, but does that mean he can't make a few remarks for three days?
Then the the situation with the House of Reps.; Pelosi decided to go on vacation IN THE MIDDLE OF A MAN'S SPEECH! She put the gavel down and said "see you all in five weeks" as a guy was addressing the floor.
I try to be neither ultra-conservative nor ultra-liberal, but I know Republicans are outraged, and what do liberals have to say? The liberal media apparently has nothing, since the only coverage I found was on Fox News' website and a "human interest" if you will, sort of skirt-around-the-issue story on CNN. No one else seemed to know it was even happening (partially, I know, because Pelosi strictly forbade media coverage of the Republican Rebellion).
I've stated before, I'm not coming at this to say liberals and the liberal media are evil Bush-haters, but I'm ****** that stuff like this is allowed to happen and only one side of the country seems to care!
I would hope that anyone reading my bio/background info would understand my perspectives. Though I may be liberal, I am curious as to how/why you make that statement. Is it simply from criticizing an ad? I am not sure how anyone is "duped" into reading these writings but by definition: "A blog is a personal diary. A daily pulpit. A collaborative space. A political soapbox. Your own private thoughts. Memos to the world. Your blog is whatever you want it to be." In other words it is opinion and is by nature, not meant to be neutral.
While I am honored to be referred to as being as a "staffer" for this newspaper, I am not sure if that label applies to unpaid positions.
To imply that ALL NEWS OUTLETS in the nation are staffed by liberals....is a bit of a stretch. I submit Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Wall Street Journal, New York Post (Rupert Murdock News Media Corp.) as evidence.
I believe readers should be informed that you offer your perspective as a liberal, before they are duped into reading your blog. It would be nice if all the news outlets in this nation were not staffed by liberals such as yourself. Perhaps, if you wish to maintain neutrality, you should have mentioned falsehoods that have appeared about Sen. McCain in ad campaigns produced by/for the Democratic party.
