The Sweet:

Matt Kenseth on a roll with new crew chief!

-Kenseth became only the 5 driver in history to open up a season with back to back Victories. The last driver who did was the one and only California kid Jeff Gordon. It was great to see him win this one without the rains help. I was a little worried at the end that Jeff Gordon had something for him but Matt was able to fend him off. At the beginning of this year I really did not think Matt Kenseth was going to be a factor I mean he is always decent and consistent enough to make the chase but just hasn't had what it takes to finish the deal in the past few years. I'm giving the credit to his new crew chief Drew Blickensderfer. Seems like they are really clicking and getting things done I think that if things continue we might be looking at one of our chase contenders this year.

Kyle Busch makes history: On Saturday Kyle became the first driver to ever win two races in two different touring series on the same day. (Craftsman Truck Series and Nationwide Series) Busch lead a total of 238 of 250 laps on Saturday. He didn't stop there either. He turned around and ended up third in the Sprint Cup race on Sunday. I would have loved to see him win Sunday as well, in fact during most of the last laps I was secretly praying that Jeff Gordon's front left tire would go down causing a caution to come out and Kyle would be able to race Matt in the last few laps for the win. (Sorry Gordon fans :S) lol

The Sour:

Disappointing day for Junior and Mark Martin:

Once again poor Junior and Mark Martin are stuck with crappy engines and bad finishes. It is funny to me that Junior and Mark suffer engine problems yet Jeff and Jimmie finish the race with top 10 cars. I wouldn't look that much into if it had just been one of the teams but 2 of the 4 teams had similar problems. I don't know it's probably nothing but tell that to Junior and Mark who finished 39th and 40th yesterday. I think it's pretty clear who are and always have been the golden boys at HMS it's a shame because there is some MAJOR talent on the other side of the shop that is getting the raw end of the deal. (And people wonder why HMS annoys me)

Greg Biffle gets beat by a bad pit stop

Greg Biffle had a car that could have very easily won the race but during the last pit stop he made one huge mistake he stopped on top of an air hose. He then had to back up and ultimately lost his team 9 spots on the track. Greg was interview after the race and was obviously upset at himself for the error that caused his team the win. Greg went on to finish 4th which is a great finish but not when you had the race winning car.

Ok so that's it for this week, be sure to check out the new video for more about the race and other random things.

Next week is Las Vegas one of my favorites!

QUESTIONS FOR YOU:

1. Who is your pick for Las Vegas this week?

2. Some unexpected drivers are doing really well this season so do you think the tide is turning in NASCAR are we going to see a different champion come homestead time?

First of all for my Vegas pick, I will pick Jeff Gordon. I am not a Gordon fan, but he looked good in Daytona and California. He was pretty good in Vegas last year and would have finished second had it not been for the hard wreck he suffered. Of course you always have to watch all of the Hendricks drivers and Roush guys. Don't be surprised if Carl Edwards repeats at Vegas or Matt makes it 3 in a row.

I don't think there are very many unexpected drivers doing well. Maybe Waltrip and Montoya, but Kurt Bush is an ex-champion and holding strong in 3rd after two weeks and the Davids, Ragan and Reutimann both had good years last year and Sadler has always been good but had bad breaks. With that being said, David Ragan is the only one I expect to be left in the top twelve when it matters. I think Kyle Bush (18) and Johnson (19) will be in or should I say we all know they will be in and Harvick (16) and Hamlin (15) will make it. I would even look for Burton and McMurray to be close if not one of them making it. I would have to say I would watch out for A.J. Allmendinger that is if he gets full sponsorship after the first 8 races. I actually got to speak to him this weekend and he is happy at Richard Petty Motorsports. I asked if he felt that he had gotten screwed last year and his response was that "I'm in a better place this year". Oh yeah and look where he is in the standings compared to the all great one that took his place Scott Speed.

I would like to say one more thing, I don't know how the race was on TV but it was boring in person. If anyone ever has the opportunity to go to the Fontana race, either run away and hide to avoid going or take a game boy because you will need it after the second lap. I was at all three races this weekend and the only suspense was will or won't it rain. Oh and I hear that TV made the stands look full. They weren't! The stands may have been 60% to 65% full at best. This race is like this every year and they refuse to give Kentucky a race. Take this one and move it east as quick as possible! Sorry for the length.

cjay- Thank you so much for your comment! Where to start your picks look right on, I don't think there will be any big surprises when it come to victory lane this week...secondly its funny that you talked to AJ Allmendinger because when I wrote that question his name was on my mind. I would love to see him stay with RPM and get a sponsor for the rest of the season. Although I've been hearing that he may be wanted in Formula 1. Rumors are rumors and everything I read says he is happy where he is so I hope his good performance on track will lead to a full deal for the remainder of the season. Oh and I laughed at the Scott Speed jab there at the end! Lastly it was a boring race which was only made worse by the weather, personally I'm with you I would much rather them move the race over this way. The crowds are always small in Fontana and they would get much better attendance in Kentucky at least I think they would. Thanks again for the comment!

NASCAR is fixed. Attendance is down because prices are too high and more importantly, it is losing its appeal. Fake wrestling had its heyday and now NASCAR is on its way down too.

oh Cheese I always look forward to your comments :)

Just trying to keep the day bright!

Carrie, I also hear that AJ's name is being thrown around as a possibility to fill the new USF1 ride based in North Carolina. I don't know if he will take it but I don't think he will leave RPM if he gets a secure ride with them. NASCAR is where he wants to be, if he didn't want to be there he would still be driving open wheel. He has a lot of talent and has been one of the most consistent drivers over the last 10 races or so. I really wasn't a fan of his until he got screwed over last year.

As far as the weather was this past weekend, the rain delays were bogus! Last year they tried to drive on a track that was visibly leaking water. This year they go to caution for a few sprinkles. I was sitting there without any rain gear and didn't even get wet other than a few drops. Carl Edwards did an in car interview with MRN which was broadcast over the track PA system and he was very critical of the caution. He couldn't understand why they would caution the race when the track was dry. I scanned a few channels and it seemed to be a common theme with all of the drivers. Oh well, I think we all know NASCAR doesn't always make the right call.

Cheese, I don't think it is fixed, but it might be manipulated sometimes to let the popular drivers do better. I did predict a caution this weekend about the time JR was going to be lapped. Of course it didn't matter in the end due to his engine failure.

Matt kenseth will choke like he does every year this is just a fluke and he won the daytona 500 because of rain he didint really win that besides a ford cant win the championship. The person to watch is Jeff Gordon he will be a major contender not matt kenseth

I can see Jeff Gordon being a big player this year. I think he really wants one more and we know he certainly has the right equipment to do it. As much crap as I talk about Jeff I wouldn't be totally upset to see him take it home this year. Thanks for the comments everyone I appreciate them all! Keep 'em coming!
