dredg in KC part 2Posted Friday, January 7, 2011, at 3:34 PM
Gavin (dredg) and Me.
Opening was an otherworldly, progressive, instrumental band called Animals As Leaders. Next up was a band I had the privilege to witness years ago at the Bottleneck in Lawrence. Codeseven split in 2005 but announced a reunion tour in 2010. When I heard they were playing with dredg, I had to see them again. Of course, they didn't disappoint. Third, was wonderful, harmonious dredg. dredg played the whole spectrum: early stuff from el cielo to their newest album The Pariah, the Parrot, the Delusion. The best part of the evening was knowing, my friend, Julia (having loved dredg forever) was seeing them for the first time. I was able to share in that moment with her. Headlining the show was Circa Survive. I like Circa Survive and this was the first time I saw them. Vocalist Anthony Green (former singer for Saosin) was very much involved verbally with the crowd. One of my pet peeves about shows is when the singer holds the mic out to the crowd and lets them sing parts of the song. I mean, it's neat, yeah; the band gets to hear their fans singing their music. This is something Green did far too often. I came to see and hear a show. Let me hear it. rabble rabble Everything else about the evening was perfect. The weather, the drive, the ambience. We played 20 questions on the wait to get in (which was only 'bout 10 minutes.) dredg kicked behind, and we hung with Gavin afterwards. If you ever get the chance, please go see dredg. Everything about their show is beautiful. It's a helluvan experience. Yay! |
