Clutch is Neil Fallon, vox; Tim Sult, guitar; Dan Maines, bass; Jean-Paul Gaster, drums, and Mick Schauer, organ.
Do you dig guitar jams and swinging beats? I do. Clutch permeates soulful, rock and funk, all the while telling a story, introducing heroes and giving the listener a jam session. I got to see Clutch in Columbia with Glassjaw and others. Then I had the awesome opportunity to spend a hot, sweaty night in Springfield and be witness to a two hour Clutch/The Bakerton Group set! It was madness!

Clutch was born in the early '90s in Maryland, and is Neil Fallon, vox; Tim Sult, guitar; Dan Maines, bass; Jean-Paul Gaster, drums, and Mick Schauer, organ. Their sound has traversed many genres, including metal, southern rock, funk and some hardcore.

Their first LP Transnational Speedway League was released in 1993 and was followed by their self-titled full length two years later. Though both great pieces of work, no one was prepared for their 1998 release.

Elephant Riders was born, and in this one's opinion, this album pushed them up and out to listeners everywhere. It's littered with heavy guitar riffs and crazy, catchy tunes. Here's a sample from the title track:

On our way to Washington where work is done by men with gavels,
I heard a sound that just about removed me from my filly's saddle.
Just outside of Antietam, where once there was a mighty battle,
I heard the rhythm of the hammers beating the rail lines together.

In 2001, Pure Rock Fury emerged. Three years later, in 2004 Blast Tyrant made it's way to ears. The album featured the single The Mod Goes Wild. Clutch was so well liked by Bam Margera and his crew, they shot a video featuring Ryan Dunn and numerous others. Here's a lyrical sample from The Mob Goes Wild :

21 guns, box made of pine, letter from the government sealed and signed
Delivered Federal Express on your mother's doorstep.

In 2003, Clutch produced side releases and rarities Jam Room (2000), Slow Hole to China and a variety of other projects.

Robot Hive/Exodus was born in 2005. This album rocks back and forth with different musical elements. From classic, heavy riffs to groovy, body-moving beats.

2007 showed to be an ascending year for the rockers. They released From Beale Street to Oblivion, a critically acclaimed album.

Clutch proves you don't have to be slathered all over TV and ads to be a huge hit. They love what they do and obviously others do as well. Clutch is a modern day, classic/southern rock band that will always leave impressions with every new release! Give them a second; disappointment surely will lack. Clutch lives here. ~Enjoy!

Clutch is better than most bands. They also have live album and DVD set to release soon titled "Full Fathom Five: Audio Field Recordings", which is pretty awesome. Great work, Jess.

Memories, I remember seeing Clutch way back when, about 15 years ago. They look way older now. Wow. I am seriously old.

Any one like death metal? Check out the Minnesota band Necromis.

yogagirl, I'm not big on death metal, but I'll surely give it a listen!

Did you see Clutch back in the "A Shogun Named Marcus" days?

Jessica, Yeah, way back when. Didn't they have a CD called Pitchfork or something like that. I think that's the one I remember most.

Wow, Pitchfork, yeah. In '91. Early stuff. Can't believe I didn't mention it.

yeah, see I told you I was old. I was in Minneapolis in the early nineties when the grunge thing was big. First row at the Target center for Metallica. Hetfield sweat on me. I love him. I could go on. But I wont

"Hetfield sweat on me." That's probably the most rad thing I've heard all week/month (whenever!) Keep rocking, yogagirl!
