This year's Best Picture Oscar winner "Slumdog Millionaire" opens Friday at Marshall Cinema. Sitting atop many critics' top ten list for the release year of 2008, this surefire cinematic classic is a must see for both the serious cinephile and even the average thrill seeking filmgoer. By far the best picture of the year, it is a movie that has a bit of everything. From romance to thrills, from drama to fantasy, "Slumdog Millionaire" is a cinematic marvel that will please just about anyone. Please follow this link to read my full-length four star review of "Slumdog Millionaire". Also opening Friday, the romantic comedy "Confessions of a Shopaholic". Isla Fisher stars as a girl with a bit of a shopping fetish. As a journalist, she takes a job at a financial magazine as a stepping-stone to land a job at one of the world's biggest fashion magazines. Ironically, she's assigned to write a column giving out financial advice all the while dodging her own bill collectors. Is it a surprise that she also ends up falling for her managing editor? A good date movie. Read my full-length review of "Confessions of a Shopaholic" here. |
